Why Are They Called Ductless Mini Splits? A wall-mount mini-split heating and air conditioning unit installed in a new house. A modern heat pump, this unit heats a house in winter and cools in the summer. This type of system eliminates ductwork which is a primary source of inefficiency in a conventional system making this about 30% more efficient.
